For a neglected or abused child holding in hurts and pain, drugs are a way; a way to block out the harsh reality of being unwanted and unloved. For a young man or woman growing up in the streets, gangs are also a way; a way to lash out against the norms of a society that has somehow overlooked an entire generation of people in trouble. For every man, woman or child, there is a way that appears to be the correct one, a way of escape, a way for vengeance and a way for pleasure in the midst of pain. There is, however, only one way that truly meets all of a person's deepest needs. That way is Jesus Christ, and The Way Out Ministries is proclaiming Him.
The Way Out Ministries in the L.A. County city of Hawaiian Gardens
(a mission affiliate with the Reformed Church in America).
Our cities are filled with dysfunctional families and individuals that have lost their way without God. Crime and violence plague our neighborhoods, businesses and schools. Drug and alcohol abuse destroys our families from within. Teen pregnancy is a problem which reveals that our children are looking for love in all the wrong places. The Way Out Ministries seeks to redirect individuals and families in the city who have lost their way. We lead them to "the sign to life" which is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ (John 14:6). The proof that He is working is demonstrated in the many changed lives that are resulting from our work. Since a relationship with God changes the whole person, The Way Out Ministries reaches out with programs and services that minister to an individual's most basic needs.
Through our community outreach programs, needs are met in the city as volunteers host monthly breakfasts, annual Thanksgiving dinners, family Christmas stores and other distribution outreaches for the needy throughout the year. Through our referral services, individuals and families can receive emergency help that can provide food, clothes, and even temporary housing as needed. These services are also extended to include rehabilitation programs for drug and alcohol abuse, legal assistance, alternatives to abortion, individual and family counseling, and more.
Through Turner Christian High School we are able to provide affordable, quality, Christian education to low income jr. high and high school youth. Students enjoy a safe place to learn and experience caring, individualized help from their teachers. After our seniors graduate, The Way Out Ministries assists them in college and trade school enrollment. We are also able to offer after school tutoring to our students and to those attending public schools.
The Way Out Ministries provides specialized tutoring programs by appointment for adults in literacy, GED and high school exit exams.
The Way Out Ministries is also reaching the needs of people living in the city through our weekly youth clubs, adult support groups, and Sunday worship services at The Gathering. These regular meetings help adults, youth, and children to deal with the daily pressures of life in the urban jungle, and disciple them to live productive Christian lives.

We are able to do all that we do for the city because Jesus first loved us. It is simply His love for us that we are returning to the city.(1 John 3:18, 4:7-11)
With a small staff, a host of volunteers and caring financial partners from all over the United States, The Way Out Ministries has carried out its mission since 1982.
